Hide your purses, ladies — having taken a look at the Topshop Spring/Summer 2014 nail polish trends, they’re so gorgeous they may just make us penniless. In the coming months, I fully expect to be using most of the colours I’m about to share, whether my bank account allows it or not!
I’ve picked up on four of the biggest trends for this season for you to lust over. So take a look and compile your lists now, you know you want to…
Primary colours are in and neon trends are out (finally!), although vibrant oranges will take their place.
At New York Fashion Week, Michelle Humphrey, Maybelline’s New York Nail Artist says: “Go bold next spring and add a splash of colour to your fingertips. I loved the bright blue nails at Prabal and the bold shades at Peter Som. Burberry nails were a soft yellow wash, the perfect spring shade.”
Try: Nails in One Hot Minute, AWOL and New Wave.
Unlike the My Little Pony pastels of last season, Spring brings a more muted colour palette including Pantone’s colour of 2014 – ‘Radiant Orchid’.
Try: Nails in Rainy Day, Prim and Proper and Boy Next Door.
A firm favourite for any season is the nude nail and once again, it makes an appearance this Spring/Summer. Forget luxe, these are naturally elegant and groomed to perfection.
If this trend is just a bit too dull for you, as I would agree, then this season brings a bit of shimmer, nail artist Marian Newman says: “Clean nails are key… but shimmer is having its own life and its new persona is chic, not tacky.” Silver foil effect on just the tips, over a natural nail, can sometimes create a more exciting look for a night out.
Try: Nails in Milkshake, Nice ‘n’ Neutral and Big Smoke.
Dark and moody
If like me, you’re still not quite over Winter, then dark nails are set to continue this year.
Manicurist, Lorraine Griffin, says that forest greens, rich blues and midnight blacks are “the perfect companion to the clean palette of white fabrics that dominate the Spring/Summer catwalks”.
Keep them chip-free and they’ll look sophisticated whatever the weather.
Try: Fallen Leaf, add a bit of glitter with Gypsy Night and Double Denim.
All Nail varnishes are £5 each or 2 for £9. They are available here.
Which ones will you be wearing or did you have another colour in mind?
