Email has revolutionised the way we communicate.
The lack of face-to-face interaction combined with the initimacy of writing means we often expose a side of ourselves we would never normally reveal. Even the most brash of us find ourselves hiding behind the technological iron curtain of email, giggling about Grumpy Cat or the latest meme.
It is this iron curtain that artist, Miranda July, is seeking to pull back in her latest project – We Think Alone. July approached many celebrities including Lena Dunham, Kirsten Dunst and photographer Catherine Opie and asked them to send her emails from their outboxes – on a variety of topics. Now she’s collated them and is sending them out to everyone who has signed up here.
”None of these emails were originally intended to be read by me (much less you),” says July allowing the project to be a ”glimpse of [them] from their own point of view.”
