A couple of weeks ago, I won a nights stay at one of my favourite restaurants close to where I live – The Wiremill. They were giving away a stay on their Facebook page in one of their boutique rooms for that Sunday night as it was ‘Wife Appreciation Day’. Although, I’m not a wife just yet (bring on July 2015), I said that planning the wedding had been a little stressful of late and we’d like a little break. Luckily, I was picked and so Green Ranger and I packed our bags, grabbed the camera and drove.
Excited about our unexpected break, we were already busy chatting in the car about what we would order from their delicious menu for dinner, we were already both set on a Sunday roast. When we pulled up, it was lovely to see that Autumn had finally hit and The Wiremill was looking lovelier than ever. Stepping out the car, we were surrounded by conkers, Green Ranger couldn’t help but pick up a few for his growing collection!
As we walked to check in, assuring ourselves that we actually had won and we weren’t going to be turned away, we noticed a lovely little sign on the entrance to the boutique. It certainly made me go all gooey inside and feel immediately welcome.
Going to check in, we met the wonderful owners who handed us an antique key with the tag ‘Mynt’ attached to it – our room name for the night. Excited, we scurried like teenager down to our door and turned the key to find a cosy, white room with the most adorable little touches. It was everything I had thought it would be and more. We had a traditional tub to relax in, Joe & Seph popcorn to munch on, a bloomin’ massive white bed and wooden beams that gave it a really homely touch. It felt like walking into somewhere that I’d always known.
Once we’d dropped our bags and gotten over how lucky we were, we relaxed into our Sunday evening and wandered up to the restaurant with tummies rumbling. Finding a comfy, little booth inside, with fairy lights surrounding us, we ordered a couple of drinks and browsed the new, exciting menu.
Now, we could have gone for roasts but we didn’t because we got a little blown away by the burger selection… Green Ranger had a delicious sounding pulled pork burger with all the trimmings and I had a juicy-sounding chicken and pesto burger, both with crunchy fries. They were some of the tastiest, juiciest burgers we’d had in a long time, as were the chips – seasoned to perfection.
As our food went down, we picked up draughts and chess from the many board games to chill out. To be fair, we both won a game each (after it got a little too competitive for a Sunday night ;)). Green Ranger then ordered us a creamy hot chocolate and a white hot chocolate, as if this Autumn hidey hole couldn’t get any more cosy!
With the night drawing in, and knowing that we had a delicious breakfast awaiting us in the morning, we retired to our room and we both enjoyed a long, hot, bubbly bath.
This mini-break had been exactly what the doctor ordered after a couple of long weeks – so thanks to The Wiremill for your kind hospitality and picking us to stay the night!
